Greetings all.. quick question. I have a 2000 seaswirl 175 4.3L vortec bought it used on consignment 1 month ag0, the thing kinda grinded when it started right from the get go, I just didnt know any better I guess. anyway long story short.. the flywheel gear is thrashed! needs replaced. The Dealer I bought it from said hed "help me out" but I have no idea what this job would normaly cost. any idea??

Gonna be expensive if it's a Volvo.
To do anything with Volvos we need model# ser# and info to identify the motor.
Gonna have to pull the motor/drive etc.

Agree.... the drive will need to be removed for engine re-installation, and you may as well check the engine coupler, and it's alignment prior to re-installing the drive.
Now will be the time to check this coupler out.

The flywheel ring gear is relatively simple to replace once the engine is out and the flywheel has been removed.
The ring is a heat/shrink fit onto the flywheel.
It does not need to be Marine specific.

What ever you do, DO NOT allow anyone to over-heat the new ring gear during installation.
Over-Heating (particularly if un-even and/or in localized areas) will cause a change to the hardness of the ring gear material, and you may be back to square one in short order.
This is best accomplished when both are rotated on a turn-table.... and heat is applied evenly.
