Flywheel Clean-up

I have a spare flywheel for my '73 Evinrude 135. The magnetism is great, but there's remnants of melted plastic from a previous stator, and some light rust on the magnets. What should I use to clean this up? Would emery cloth across the magnets hurt them?

No. Just use a fine grit.
