Flushing my Engine after every run

"I am in fresh water at this t

"I am in fresh water at this time. I will be going to my Salt water slip in January.
I replaced my risers over the summer and would like to keep them for a longer period
of time. I was looking at the Perko 0593 set but I don’t have $225 for each side. I was told I cant get just the top they use on the new Perko and use it on my older Perko system I have now.

I was looking at the Flush pro system but it bothers me there is a check valve in it,
But it is affordable and easy to install. All I want to do is shut off my sea cocks and then use my hose and flush the system with fresh water after each run. My boat my sit for a week or so.

Any other suggestions?"

"I'm floating in salt wat

"I'm floating in salt water year round. I also have been flushing out the raw water side after most every use. The exceptions are when I'm in the islands and there is not enough fresh water! Anyway, I'm not experiencing any longer life of the cast iron parts. In fact, I've had a riser completely pluged at cruise power at the 5 year mark, and that's with constant fresh water flushes. The next set of risers looked pretty shot at the 4 year mark as well. Now, I'm not using a pulsing type flushing system, only a garden hose in the strainer. I flush to prolong the life of the copper parts."

My 91 Wellcraft Costal 3300 wi

My 91 Wellcraft Costal 3300 with a pair of 454's came with the Perko flush system w/ check valve. I assume they were in the boat from the beginning because in 2004 I replaced the org. manifolds and risers. I always use the salt-a-way solution in conjuction with a good fresh water flush. The mechanic that helped me with the new cooling parts install said to expect 15 years of life with the new risers if I always use the salt-a-way. I run each engine for about 15 min on fresh water then switch in the soap solution until almost all of it has been sucked up. I always shut the engines down with a healthy level of suds comming out the exhust so the solution coats the internal parts. 4 years on these manifolds and risers and they work and look new.

"I have used a flush system on

"I have used a flush system on 454 Crusader EFI engines for 13 years. I have found the fresh water rinse to be only marginally beneficial - but I do not think I got more than 12 months extra life from the exhaust elbows by doing so. When I stopped using it, I had to replace the exhaust elbows in a fairly similar time frame after about 400 hours or about 3 -4 years. However while doing the rinse each time, I can say I never had any fresh water pump or impeller problems so perhaps that was a benefit."

"Hi there, i have an 83 crusad

"Hi there, i have an 83 crusader, raw water cooled, no fancy flush system, just a t connection above the stopcock at the water intake. I extended the pipe at the t valve for easier access when the boat went from lake ontario to cape ann, easy to flush, do it every time."
