"Hi everyone,
i am putting a fresh water cooling kit on a 3.0gs 2000 with 120 hours salt use. Is there anything i should flush the engine with before fitting the kit and filling the block with anti-freeze?
Cheers Paul"

You're Not going to be Happy,....

That motor has been Salted for Too Long to switch now....."

"So how long can the salt stay absorbed in the cast?? Would changing the coolant every, say 2 hours running eventually flush it clean???
Im concerned that my $750 for the kit incl shipping to the UK has gone to waste!!!

"I would not worry too much. The existing corrosion If any) should be inhibited by the coolant whe you go to a closed system.

If you are concerned about flushing the engine block first, you can try researching some products like salt-away or neutra-salt."

"I would think that a change to fresh water cooling from salt would be good for the engine at any time in its life. A bit like banging one's head on the wall; it feels so good when you stop

"Filling the block with water

"Filling the block with water only and draining it on a regular basis would EVENTUALLY clean it out. The salt-away and neutra-salt stuff tends to foam, so I personally would only leave those solutions in long enough for the engine to come up to temp and then flush several times with clean water. If you do this, be sure to drain the system dry if you are in a freezing climate. No where is it written that you MUST put antifreeze in the system. Only needed if you don't drain the system dry in freezing weather. An anti corrosion additive would be a good idea. For full benefit of FWC, change the thermostat to a 180 degree one (or which ever one is recommended for that particular engine). Use a marine one, not an automotive one."
