Flushing a 1992 Suzuki 25DT two strok

I bought this engine second hand a few years ago and it works great, almost like new. Problem I have is I operate in salt water and I have been trying to flush the engine with the flush port on the shaft next to the port for the lower gear oil. Whenever I connect the hose the water just seems to come out the bottom intake ports and nothing from the top or the pee hole. It appears the water is not making to the engine and i have to resort to using ear muffs or doing it in a barrel. Does any one have experience with this? There does not appear to an flush port on the top of the motor.

Part #21?

If so, select the part number and read the description.

“Insert Flush Hose Attachment in gear case flushing hole to rinse out water cooling passages. NOTE: Plug water intake holes before flushing.“

I’m a fresh water guy so I’ve never used my flush ports. What I would expect(GUESS) to happen is you should see water coming out the telltale and water coming out the propeller exhaust port.

Do not run the engine when flushing, my guess is the water pump is bypassed with the flush port. I’m also guessing the thermostat is also bypassed otherwise water won’t get past the thermostat. Might be worth pulling the thermostat cover off and checking the thermostat for buildup.

Lots of guessing on my part. Good luck.

Thank you for your response and the Part #21. I do have an attachment that fits but I will try this. I have tried blocking the intake holes but not as easy sounds! Very helpful and I will try it again and follow your suggestions. Thanks

My thought exactly. I did try it with the muffs blocked to hold the water but the water still came out the intakes. The other option is to take the guards off and try and plug the holes directly. Thanks again.
