flushing 8 hp mercury 2 stroke motor

Hi, can anyone tell me why I can't flush my motor with clamp on flusher(earmuffs)? When I submerge leg in water there is a good stream coming from the outlets but very little when using earmuffs and water is very hot.

Ear muffs only work on motors that have water intakes on the "side" of the (leg).

The portable merc's intake is directly "above" the prop on the bottom of the cavitation plate.

There is a "flusher" that is made for these models but it is not the ear muffs that most are used to.

Submerging in a buck/pail/garbage can of water is a "superior" method to using a hose/flusher which supplies limited supply of water anyhow.
