"Ok guys in light of the rising gas prices I invested in the Floscan Twinscan for my 29 Blackfin Flybridge with twin 1988 454 crusaders. I received the kit and started reading. I don't get far and am advised that I need to order diaphragms to eliminate or reduce fuel flow pulsation between the floscan and the fuel pump. I ordered these from Floscan Company itself.

Has anyone installed these on their crusades? If so did you use the diaphragms? I noticed the floscan has a mounting bracket. Any advice on where to mount the meters or if there are any bolts that can be used instead of drilling new ones? Basically does anyone have some don't make the same mistake I made advice before I attempt to install these.

On the fuel montior itself, use very little sealant on the thread of the hose barb that screws into the monitor and keep away from the ends, if gets inside will screw it up. Hard to describe, but feel free to post here or email me at [email protected] with questions. I called Floscan a few times for tech help but frankly they weren't very helpful.

Mount the meters higher up if can. I mounted mine on the inside of the stringers right near my racors. Might be able to cut exisiting fuel line and put in place there, but suggest just replacing the fuel hose at same time."

"I installed a FloScan on mine three years ago. One engine's fuel reading is 20% higher than the other. The acutal fuel consumption though is the same because there is lttle difference in the amount of fuel needed to fill. Boat is a 1990 Silverton with twin 454's.

I have come to the conclusion that I NEED a damper on at least one engine. Have not gone to the trouble of purchasing one because I can make adjustments knowing the error factor. With fuel the way it is today, the boat is not going far this year.

Flowscam told me about the flo

Flowscam told me about the flow damper after I ordered the system. Added another $100 to the cost. The added damper was a 30 micron fuel filter before the flow sensor on each 454. The GHP plus the GPS velocity allowed me to caculate the optimum speed under different sea conditions.

Guess what .... slower is better on the gas consumption.

"On that 20 % variation...did you flip a microswitch or two to correct it? It's in the instructions, and they do work.

Also, if you are seeing a high (or inconsistent) readings, you might have an air leak. The tiniest air leak before the sensor unit will drive the FloScan nuts! One of my fuel shutoffs--that never leaked a drop of FUEL--allowed enough air to be sucked in that the readings were way off. Had to relocate the sender unit before the shutoff to get things under control.

If you have the small filter inside a little canister before the fuel pump dont need the damper They do the work as a damper

The instructions give advise to adjust the RECORDED fuel consumption readings to the actual consumptions. It does not have a way to correct for a difference in the burn rate readings between the two engines........ at least from what I could find. Mine is Model N10-01-MTGN.B47. Not sure which series but its one of either the 7000,8000 or 9000.

Heck, I am not bitching about the unit at all. I provides the information that I seek which is a relative fuel reading against rpm and speed when connected to my GPS which it always is. Would a damper improve things?? Maybe, maybe not. I am not that excited about it giving me detailed accuracy readings. If this was an airplane I might have different thoughts.

One thing I believe would be an improvement is to have another input so that the generator's consumption was added to the totalizer.

My senior brain is getting confused. The only way the sensor knows how much fuel is being used at the moment is by measuring it. That figure is then used to record the total gallons burnt. If it's off in one way, then it's off in the other as well. The only way to calibrate the readings is by the method I described (fill/ run/ refill/ note the difference and adjust via dip switches).

Did you buy them as a matched set from FloScan? They highly recommend it.

"No, I did not purchase them from FloScan. I purchased them from BoatFix.com, one of their authorized distributors. All the piece parts came in one box.

I don't believe there is any difference in the sensors, my thought is there is surging happening in one of the fuel lines. Its most likely going to stay that way because it is not important enough for me to chase a solution.
