I think I have flooded my 95 M

I think I have flooded my 95 Merc 15m. Have spark but won't start. It is the "prime" to start model....no choke. I pulled the prime button a fair number of times before I read on this forum not to do so. Besides letting it sit is there anything I can/need do to un-flood it?

"Hi there!

Saw earlier post, got busy. Sorry.

Remove spark plugs, ensure kill switch is out (prevent spark) and try starting motor. The fresh air coming in should purge extra fuel. Do not connect fuel line, drain fuel bowl of carbs too.

This should help you.

Regards!

Benjamin."

I have a 35 hp mercury 2 strok

I have a 35 hp mercury 2 stroke engine. winterized 3 years and sat. Now cannot keep the engine running. Gas is getting to the engine however it wont turn over. Plugs okay. Fuel pump ok. does anyone have any ideas what to try next. Motor will turn over when you spray starter fluid in but will not stay running

"Jack, first off throw the starter fluid away - that's a quick method of toasting a powerhead - 2 strokes need oil and starter fluid has none.

After three years the carb (either single or more depending on the year model) is probably gummed up tight that's why spraying starting fluid right into the throat is working for you.

You may have a decent engine there, don't wreck it trying to hurry to get it going.

Start with the basics - after sitting for three years you need to:

Check the compression
Check for spark

if both the above are good then -

Change the plugs
Change the impeller
Replace the gear oil in the lower unit
Remove the carb(s), disassemble, clean and at minimum replace the gaskets

Either spray some fogging oil into the cylinders through the sparkplug holes or put about a teaspoon of 2 cycle oil in and rotate the flywheel by hand to get the cylinders lubed up.

Then hook up a tank of fresh gas mixed correctly with 2 cycle oil and give it a try..."
