Fixing and identifying evinrude

Hey guys I bought a boat with a evinrude 40 hp 2stroke. It doesnt get spark but i replaced the rectifier, spark plugs, spark plug wires and ignition coil.
Im thinking its the stator but im not sure how to test it or replace it. Does anyone have any ideas thst can help me fix it? And does anyone have an idea of what year it is?

*Edit* ---- Oops, I think I get it now, by "Nub", you actually mean "Noob" , or "Newb" .....sorry, carry on !

So I found out the motor is in fact a 1990 Evinrude. Heres the model number

TE40ELESR

I believe the problem is in fact the stator but everywhere I look the part is no longer manufactured or forsale. Does anyone have a recommended alternative part number for the stator? I might just not be looking in the right places.

Your location ?----How did you determine that stator is faulty ?-----What ohm reading do you get on your stator ?----What reading do you get on the charge coil for spark ?-----Does it still use the UFI powerpack under the flywheel ?-----Picture of parts under the flywheel ?

Located in South Georgia. ----- I guess i shouldnt say for a fact its the stator. I'm assuming it is since i replaced these other parts. However i did just ring out the stator and got 0.6 ohm on yellow + yellow white wire & 0.900 m-ohm on the yellow blue to ground with it continuously climbing (Pretty sure i rang out the correct wiring on this stator but I could be wrong). ----- I do not have the fly wheel off (yet) so I have not tested the charge coil. To be honest im not sure what that is but with some googling I will know soon enough. ----- will attempt to upload 1mb photos for you guys for better detailed information.

However i did notice what i believe to be the Primer Solenoid Assembly (OEM PN 5007356) to be melting black ooze out of it and inside the case. It is hard as a rock but has definitely melted out. Will upload a photo of that too. Also the little orange lever on it, should that be set to a certain position or does that not matter? - I reckon it doesnt at the moment since its melted.

Yes the red lever does matter.----The red lever is for manual operation of the primer.----Used to open the valve should you need to start motor with a rope.-----Yes , this motor will run / can be started with a dead battery.-----Many used electric primer valves listed on E-bay.

That's great to know! I was talking to my dad and he was explaining that it did have pull cable capabilities if I were to run into an instance where the starter did not work or the battery was dead. That's good to know however in the images I provided above as you can see that system is probably smoked at the moment. I'll be sure to leave the orange little lever all the way to the right where I initially found it for now (hopefully that means it's off).

If I need to remove the fly wheel I will be able to sometime tomorrow night since I am on Eastern Time. I know this post has been up for a while and I was wanting to get it fixed asap in the beginning but I ended up buying a house and finally got some time to work on this. ----- I also work night shift hence the reason why I am replying so late on this post. ----- I am lacking in tools so on my way to work I'll be picking them up as I need them. Earlier today I was convinced it was the stator so I ended up picking up a metric impact set and very quickly I found out it's actually in standard (haha) but after ringing out those numbers, the stator might be fine from what I've learned from youtube. But I will be picking up a new standard set tomorrow just in case if I need to crack it open.

The stator on that motor is for charging the battery.----Really has nothing to do with generating spark to start the motor.

So I changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil pack and rectifier. If stator is just used for charging the battery then that shouldn't be my problem for getting no spark. The next thing i need to look into is if it has a UFI power pack under tbe flywheel? Or am I missing something?

Missing some $$ in your wallet I think.----Yes it had the UFI when it left the factory.----Time to do some trouble shooting / testing.
