First time boat owner, having some issues

Hello all! I recently bought my first boat, and on my 2nd outing at the lake I have a problem. The boat is a 2003 VIP Vision 1886 SBRC with a 4.3 Thunderbolt V Mercruiser in it, and the alpha one gen 2 behind it. While on the lake yesterday i found that i couldnt trim the drive down, it would run up to trailer height, and it would go down a little and stop, trim up no problem, and trim down a little and stop. Pump runs, reservoir is full of fluid, checked wiring and cleaned limit switch, and the sending unit for giggles. I checked the wires in the throttle lever, and all the way to the pump, all looks great. Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Happy Boating!

Might the tilt/trim switch. There is a big flat head screw on the side of the pump that can release the fluids and allow the motor to freely go down. That's just to get by until you find the main problem.
