getting ready to change the oi

getting ready to change the oil on my 2007 5.7 captains choice. engine is in a restoration 22' chris craft tournament fisherman boat. Only has 22 hours run time but has been the original oil since factory( over a year old). Have used the drill mounted pumps thru the dipstick for other inboards in ski boats but they didnt work too well. Going to try the jabsco hand pump thru the dipstick for this engine. In my manual there are oil capacities for steel and aluminum oil pans. Not sure what pan I have. Was going to put a magnet on the pan to see what I have.( dont see any way to tell what pan by serial #'s?) Going to warm up the oil and try to pump out. whats the most effective angle to pump most of the oil out? This is a trailer boat so I can raise the bow. just wanted to see if you Crusader folks had any advice for the first timer dealing with oil changes. thanks for any information.

"i've tried the drill but like the vacuum pump better. Many of these engines you can put a hose OVER the dipstick tube, and not have to pump thru a small inserted tube.
The first oil change is most important, you're overdue.."

LONG overdue! Be sure to warm

LONG overdue! Be sure to warm the engine thoroughly or the oil won't suck out.

Ask me how I found that out!

"The hand pumps work great and are inexpensive. Be sure you get the one with the metal housing, not the plastic one. Screw it right on to the garden hose fitting on the top of the dipstick tube. Be sure you double check the level when you are refilling. Because you are sucking the old oil through the tube, some oil tends to coat the tube and give you a false reading when rechecking the level. Let it sit a while, then recheck, just to be sure. Regarding the level of the boat when pumping out. Your tube should connect to the pan in the middle so I would keep he boat level.

Good luck
Rick"
