"Recently I had the chk eng light come on, on my 2000, 115 Evinrude. The motor ran fine with no power down to slow mode etc. I took the boat to the local dealer and they simply told me $3500 for a new emm.
The problem, was/is a voltage regulator or the like on the board in the emm has failed and the alternator is outputting too higher voltage.
This is evidently a very common problem that FICHT are aware of in these old engines.
I have an old emm and have pulled it apart to see if there is anything obvious. - a bit of electronics knowledge.
Has anyone had a go at fixing these devices themselves??"
