"Need to know the gap for the points. Also, there's two holes in the mag plate with little rubber grommets, now I assumed those holes are for the kill switch wires. One wire is there but has been cut, the other hole is empty with no wire in sight. Did this model have a kill switch, and if the wires are cut does this mean that its like having the the switch open? Most of all how do you turn the motor off? Choke it? The ignition seems pretty simple, but I wonder how much I'm missing. Thanks for any info that might come to mind."

"what u have....is a 1959--18hp...the small wires, are kill wires....the plug wires,w/boots go into coils...u could install a kill switch on mtr easily...install sw...conn the 2 blk sm wires...when u push the sw,it grounds out the sys ,thru the closed points"

"So, those small black wires basicly connect the two sets of points together, with an open switch between them. Makes me wonder if the one is grounding that set of points, because there's NO spark at either cylinder. I have to replace the small wires and the plug wires anyway, so I'll see what that does. Oh yeah, is the gap .020 on the points? Thanks for the help."

"Decided to disassemble the magneto completely. Once I got into it I found that all the wires were a mess. A black tape nightmare. I unravled four feet(measured it) of black tape under the mag plate. Of coarse, with new wires the spark jumps accross a half an inch(measured it). It costed all of a whopping 4.00 for 8' of 7mm plug wire. I wanted a project motor, and it looks like it's gonna be a complete gut job. Fun, fun, fun. jwb, thanks for the help."

"put u some new points and condensors in there while your at it...,clean carb, new kit, install new wtr impeller, and LU oil, and you'll be fishing!"

"Whoa, this old motor is a lon

"Whoa, this old motor is a long way from a swim. All the rubber pieces just crumble when touched. I gotta go through all the seals top to bottom. I'm looking into finding the stuff. Like the pump kit, I need to figure out who's got a kit with the oil seals in it. Lower unit seal kit, have to figure out what comes in those, ya know, the time consuming stuff."

"Thanks George, Andrew,
I think I have looked at every part number listed in this site for this model number. I must say with excellent results. I dont think that I'm gonna go with just the impeller though, the pump kit(18-3377) has the rubber gromet for the water tube in it, if there's a day when I need the plate I'll have a spare. Having ordered ignition parts, and coils from this site before, I'm well aware of the great prices and promt shipping. Thanks."
