can anyone explain how i am getting water in my lower unit when i drain it this happens every time i change oil and take the boat out it is a FD-12 1958 Johnson 18 H.p. Thank u very much for your time on this

Lower unit seals leaking. nee

Lower unit seals leaking. need to replace the seals. order a kit if one if available.

"Likely places to leak are the prop shaft seals, the drive shaft seals, the shift rod seal and the washers on the drain and level plugs.

A pressure test could be wise as that will identify the leaks.

Make sure you note how the old seals are fitted as sometimes/often/usually there are two on the shafts facing in opposite directions. One to keep the oil in the other to keep the water out!"
