"I am a newbie to boats and in the process of dealing on a used one, it has a 1987 Evinrude 70 with VRO. The seller has openly told that the VRO system is faulty and does not work. He said that it failed by staying open and not closing which was one good thing. So apparently it has been "plugged off" and he has been mixing the oil and gas. He openly told me that the boat shop said it is about $459 for a new injection pump. It is on a 17Ft bowrider which is in pretty good shape(same year). This being my first boat, shoulc I be aware of anything to do with this issue? Good quality engine or not? VRO bad or good? Need new engine or not? Sorry for all the questions but my knowledge of boat engines is fairly limited and I just want to make a informed decision. Thanks."
