When it was running last week.....A little confused here you say the engine dont run but the tach will climb and drop when cruising. Lets focus on one thing at a time you should see between 9 and 10 volts at the coil key on run.
Can I jumper past the resistor to test it.
This may depend on what the Prestolite uses for a triggering device, and what the ignition coil demands.Forgot to tell you not a points ignition. Older Prestolite distributors. Is the ballast still needed?
Wouldnt you need a diode in the jumper wire from the start solenoid to keep power from backfeeding from the coil to the starter in the run position?
