Hi all, I went to start my 1997 fast strike 150 from cold 1st go didn't fire 2nd go it fired but didn't run, I went for the 3rd start and as it was starting to fire up it just stopped all the electricity to the every thing shut down. I checked the motor fuse and the fuses in the fuse panel all ok , checked the out put from the fuse panel all ok , checked connections of starter switch, gauges, throttle, connections on motor etc all ok. Randomly power returns this has happened 5 times over a 24 hour period. The gauges work lights work as I go to start it I turn the key the engine test lights light up the buzzer works it goes through the correct test sequence then when I turn the key to start all power stops nothing . There is power to the ignition key switch and the main cable to the starter. So it have been using a process of elimination so far with the same negative result, I can,t understand how the power returns it is almost like there is a thermal electrical cutout but I can't find one and I don't think there is one? So each time the power returns? I have disconnected sometime first I removed the tilt relays tried starting no good, then disconnected the main positive feed to the starter no good, removed the other 3 wired on the starter joined with the main positive to isolate the stater no good, I have now removed the 2 wires going to the starter solenoid and am waiting for the power to return mysteriously to test . I am trying to eliminate the starter as the cause. Any suggestions? Regards

Power back? All wires to starter and solenoid disconnected turned key it went through the correct sequence check lights working buzzer working gauges working turned key to to start didn't loose power ( boat wouldn't start anyway no wires to starter) . Then tried the up and down tilt switch then immediately lost power again. Now I will wait for power to return. Any ideas greatly appreciated

If your battery connections are clean and tight; you need to have the battery load tested at a auto parts house. Sounds like a weak battery. You could try a batter from your car or truck and see what happens.

Hi, Thanks for your suggestions I have had the battery load tested and it is OK 500 CCA . The battery volts before turning the key are 12.68V when I tried starting again the volts didn't change. For me it is telling me that turning the key to start is putting a positive voltage to something causing the problem which in turn shuts the power down in the system , very little current as there is no voltage drop at that point in time. The power just stops immediately then I have to wait for about 1.5 hour before it come back mysteriously. the power remains at the power terminal of the starter solenoid and power is at the ignition switch because they are feed by the battery just no power in the circuits that control the operation of the motor? many thanks
