"Since I know nothing. I would like input on this engine. Are they
tough, long runners? How are they to repair? Simple or complicated?
Trustworthy or fickle? What HP rating is a 10 cyl.? Fuel guzzlers?
I am looking at buying a old tug (80') for a livaboard, so I won't
work the boat, just move it from time to time. No, I don't know the
year (yet) or the condition except it is running. I'd really
appreciate a disortation on the pros & cons of the Fairbanks. I am
mechanicaly adept. Thanks,"

They where good heavy power, poor on fuel, but could deliver the type of power needed to move large vessels. I would start by getting the age and model number and look around for parts, can they be gotten. And who can I get to work on it. I looked into old tugs for years, then purchased a production trawler that needed work. e-mail me if you want to talk it over more"
