Ok guys, have a quick question. I'm doing a lower unit oil change on a new to me 2010 f40 Yamaha engine and I bought the yamalube gear case HD but didn't realized that oil is for v8 and v6 engines and not for smaller engines. I called my local Yamaha dealer and they don't have any available right now and they are against that oil for my engine.
We are going to be using the boat this coming Wednesday until Sunday and I was just reading the owners manual and it calls for hypoid 90 gl-5 but I don't see anything available in my local Walmart or academy sports, they do sell penzoil I believe, mercury brand and the Walmart brand in 90 weight but don't see any mention of hypoid anywhere. Was thinking of using something just for the weekend and flush it next week with the yamalube unless everything else is the same as the Yamaha brand.
I have done some reading and I heard that even the mercury brand is the best brand out there when it comes for lower unit oil and I wonder how true is this?
I'm not against using the yamalube, I just don't want to pay for basically next day shipping for a quart of oil. I have done some search and I cant find of the yamalube stuff is the same as any other lower unit oil in 90w, the hypoid thing is kind of confusing. I have a bit of that oil from west marine but I think they don't even sell hypoid anymore anyways, as I read in a thread.
Any recommendations would be appreciated it.
