Tried what you said El. The distributor comes up about an eighth of an inch and stops. Tapped it wiggled it pulled on it swore at it and begged at it....nothin

"haha begged it. It should fre

"haha begged it. It should freely pull out by rotating it a bit to free it from the intermediate gears. If this does not happen than something strange is binding between the gears but if the gears are free they will rotate when you rotate the engine.

Maybe rotate the engine a bit and make sure that the dist is rotating, if so the gears "should" be fine. While pulling up the distributor rotate gently a little in each direction and while rotating let the dist fall back down into the engine a small amount so that the gears aren't binding. It has to come out...."

"Ya, The rotor shaft is turnin

"Ya, The rotor shaft is turning. I soaked this thing in WD40 and dont know what to do. It comes up a little then it seems to contact something. I dont know if there is a ring thats welded itself to the shaft bore or what the hell..."

"Try spraying it with a produc

"Try spraying it with a product called pb blaster!!! This is one thing I CANNOT live without. WD40 works, but PB is far better. I have freed many things with this stuff...."

"It should just slide out once

"It should just slide out once the lock bolt is removed. My distributor housing was broken and the distributor was seized in the block. Had to weld a nut onto the distributor shaft and hammer it out.

It will come out, you just have to keep trying. When you reinstall it, try using a little grease.

Have a great day,

Rob."

"Years ago I worked at a marin

"Years ago I worked at a marina on Lake Murray in SC, and we worked on "salt water" boats fairly regularly. I remember trying to get a very stubborn distributor out of a Mercruiser 260HP V8 (GM 350 cid). Soaked it for days with WD40 and applied heat, even tried trying to force the base to rotate by using a chisel & hammer. I finally notified the boat owner that any further attempts to remove the distributor would likely destroy the distributor and asked him if he wanted me to proceed, but I couldn't be responsible for damage to the distributor. He agreed. What we finally had to do to remove the distributor was to attach a chain around it and lift it straight up with our very large heavy lift forklift. The forklift lifted the entire weight (6,000 lbs.) of this 27 ft. boat up off the trailer. The boat was literally hanging by the distributor about 3 inches above the trailer when with heat and a hammer, it finally broke loose.

We installed a new distributor, and gave the old stubborn corroded (and slightly bent and dented) distributor to the owner so he could throw it on his neighbor's roof.

This problem can probably be prevented by regular seasonal applications of a good corrosion inhibitor, and more often if you're a salt water boater."

Tried to post pic.Its boken at

Tried to post pic.Its boken at the pedastal flange. I found a guy in Utah thats going to try to fix and recurve. If it works out I will post. (new one is 1400.00

"Ya Mike I did. The pedastal flange was cooroded to the block and sheared off right below the adjustment flange on the housing. I didnt realize this and wound up chiselling it away from the block. There were no shiny pieces around the break so My guess is it was broken for awhile. The studs inside the cap had funny wear on them, and one stud was chewed halfway through! I think that maybe the rotor shaft was corkscrewing a little bit and caused this funny wear, I didnt realize it until the violence inside the distributor sh*tcanned the advance springs. I`ll leave it to El P or one of you other guys to grade my explanation. But this is how I think it all happened. Now I need to find a distributor...Pray for me...."
