I have a 1978 70hp evinrude was getting water in middle cylinder so i pulled head and replaced gasket. Now i wanted to replace exhuast manifold gaskets, but it seems that its alot to do this. Was wondering if ther is a way to do this without removing powerhead. Was wandering if if i could just loosen housing below powerhead enough to get to bottom bolts. Can anyone tell me if this is possible???????

Thanks TJ

Your best bet is to pull the powerhead ( not that hard ) then on the bench you can clean the gasket surface and install new gaskets with no fear of tearing them.-------------Allows for proper torque too.--------------Gasket under the powerhead likely needs replacing anyway.
