exhaust shutter design change? 1995 7.4L

I lost an exhaust shutter (1995 7.4 L Bravo1). The manual calls out 807166A1 which is two flaps with a square grommet to hold it in the tube. The local parts guy says the new design is 807166A3 which has a ring that retains the assembly. I emailed merc and they say that they will respond sometime before Obama's second term. I want to go this weekend. Anybody know if this will work?

Upgrade (per pair) new style

I'm not sure if the 7.4 exhaust y-tube is the same as the 5.7 Alpha, but those numbers are the same as what I replaced mine with.

This is exactly what I was concerned about. Is this an "official" Merc fix or is it something that just works?

That's the genuine Mercriuser part #. (maybe even Quicksilver? but not sure)

Sierra makes the same shutters under the part #18-2649.

sorry to bring up an old post but did the 807166a3 shutters work in place of the 807166a1 shutters? i have the same y pipe merc part#807130a4 which is the same as adamg and want to know if the 807166a3 shutters work on this pipe? thanks
