"Cursaders, 270 C.I.D with freshwater cooling system.4’’ exhaust riser 97772 part number.

Is there a torque specification for the 4 bolts that connect the raw water side to the manifold. I tighten it down as good as I could with my wrench and it seems to be on good. I even stepped on the wrench and put some of my 180lbs on it.

I ran the engines yesterday and the carbon alarm went off. I took my bottle of of bubble maker and spayed it over every connection and saw no bubbles."

"carbon alarm...monoxide, diox

"carbon alarm...monoxide, dioxide??? where is the sensor(s) located? how long has it been installed?

don't have tthe crusader service book but willing to bet your well past the recommended torque values. More important to draw all four fasteners up evenly.

If nobody else can supply a value, you can find various charts on the www showing recomended torque values for differnet thread types and materials; bet the service manual doesn'tt deviat from these by much, if any."

"Maybe there was fresh paint burning off, causing the alarm? I would say 20 to 25 lb/ft on the 3/8" bolts/nuts."

"25 sounds right, will check the book tonight.

If your gasket was leaking then you would first get fluid not exhaust gasses. Suspect paint burning or something like that.

Speaking of gaskets, 4 or 5 years ago we replaced all risers and elbows on our model 350's and noted that there was a far amount of rust and pitting on the exhaust manifold gasket surface. Pulled studs and used diamond stone to hone the surface then used antisieze on the gasket surfaces with the idea that it is waterproof, high temp grease. Well 500 hours later it is still tight. We only acid washed one time since and did it in place, did not remove the parts."

"1st question Monoxide. I purc

"1st question Monoxide. I purchased a home Depot style. We use them all the time for homes, the best is Kiddi Safe the 9v Battery operated. That is the unit that went off.

What I think happened was I had my aft canopy on with only one side un-zippered and the windows were all closed and I had the engine hatches
Off so I can see the engines, I was adjusting the rpm’s. I think it was comming in from outside and did not have any place else to go but in the cabin. There was no wind that day.

Last weekend I took some RTV high temp from work and sealed the two connections just to see if there was going to be a leak in my new riser.
I was happy to say nothing blew out and the seal was still in tacked.

I did thing about looking to see if there was any water or fluids leaking out after installing, I guess that would have been my first sign that the bolts were not tight enough. I doubled check all the connections while the motor was warm and there all
Nice and tight. I went threw the rest of all my hose clamp connections and even
Changed a couple due to looking bad.

It seems to be running ok and we went over to Washington State Husky stadium and anchored off to here them get there ass kicked on Saturday. The alarm did not go off."
