"Boy, are you lucky! I have risers and elbows on both sides of both engines: 4 times 250 bucks each time they go away.

If I were you I'd put new manifolds on it. Why take a chance? Why? If the interior of the manifold develops a leak, water drips down and goes into the cylinders. The way yours is set up (and brilliantly!) the maniflds probably drain when the engine is shut off--ordinarily the water remains in the manifolds to leak into the motor. That said, I'd still change 'em out.

If you are going to rod them, I think a bottle brush will be too soft. Use a heavy duty coat hanger at a minimum. If you have a friend in a mchine shop, the hot-tank process will clean them up much easier and will be more thorough. Muriatic acid is another option; unless you have used it before and have the facilities, I'd advise the hot-tank route."
