Exhaust bellows adhesive

I'm installing all new bel

I'm installing all new bellows on a alpha 1. Is it nessesary to use adhesive to the exhaust bellows and why? It's not water tight anyway. Also what keeps the water from leaking up through the shift shaft and into the U joint bellows.

no need for adhesive on exh. b

no need for adhesive on exh. bellows. there is a seal on the shift shaft.
