exhaust 1987 470

I have an Alpha 1 outdrive with a 1988 470 mercruiser. I'm trying to replace the exhaust hose & it's driving me nuts. I've fastned it to the stern end & lowered the out drive. I'v fastened it to the out drive, lowered the out drive & tried to fasten it to the stern. I've warmed the hose with a heat gun & tried to streatch the hose. There just isn't any room to get hold of the hose & fasten it on. HELP ! Any advise / tricks would be appreciated.

Thats why most replace the bellows with the tube style.Usually done with the drive off and pulling it in the housing with the expander tool.
