Excessive oil in the exhaust

"When I was setting the carb on my 1963 Evinrude 5.5hp, I noticed after the water had settled a lot of black oil on top of the water. Is this normal or is something wrong."

"are u running in a barrel or trashcan..if so,that would be normal,if its running good. The oil cant disipate,it has nowhere to go.You should also de-carb that lil engine, which is the process of spraying a product thru the carb during a fast idle ,it removes carbon from the internals of the engine ,as well as the exhaust housing...good stuff...you also should ck your lower unit oil,for water,in case it may be leaking old oil,..out.
Also, what is your oil mix?...it should be--50/1 1 pint to 6 gal gas....u may have it a little rich, and a good high speed run should clear it out."

"Jamie and JW, Is 50::1 the correct mix for that '63 motor. OMC had recommended 50::1 for '64 and later motors. Is that '63 all needle and roller bearings?"

"by rule of thumb, per an omc rep many years ago,..his advise was to use 24/1 on double line engines, and 50/1 on single(fuel pumped) engines. I have seen diff advise in that area.it needs to be checked,if it has bushings,i would say go with the 24/1.."

should I run it in a trash can

should I run it in a trash can while spraying the cleaner into the carb and how would I know if it has roller or bushing type bearings? Currently I have the fuel mixed at 50/1. This is a stupid question but is there more oil in 24/1 or 50/1?
Thanks for the advise.
