Excessive idle speed

"I have a 1997 evinrude 225 lo

"I have a 1997 evinrude 225 looper ocean pro that idles between 2000-2500 rpm and i cant get it to go lower. I have checked all the linkages and when I put my hand over the carb intake fuel pours out of it and the engine stalls. All the ignition components test good per the clymer manual and I cant identify any vacuum leaks, any ideas?"

"Have you had the small idle and intermediate air bleed jets out of the front of the carburetors?

If so, possibly they were reinstalled improperly?

Throttle body butterflies not in sync? That is, they may not all be closing and opening at the same time.

If carbs were removed at one time, perhaps the weird O Rings between the carbs and throttle body have slipped out of place.

Scribe mark on cam not properly aligned with the throttle cam roller. Butterflies should just start to open when that scribe mark is dead center with the roller."
 
1. No the carburetor has not b

1. No the carburetor has not been touched.
2.The throttle body butterflies have not been touched but appear to open and close all the way in sync.
3.I was contemplating checking the o-rings but sprayed in carb cleaner where those gaskets go and no noticeable change in the idle was noted.
4. Will check the scribe marks.
 
I found the center timing magn

I found the center timing magnet loose on the flywheel causing the high RPM problem now how do I align it correctly if there are no marks other than the magnet. What position should it be in of the keyway is at 12 O'clock position looking at the bottom of the flywheel?
