"I have a 1993 johnson 150hp outboard, and have noticed when its running at idle that sometimes it smokes alot, and other times it doesn't. The smoke is blue in color. The vro/fuel pump is hooked up and working. Any idea what the problem might be? Also at first start up she'll smoke alot too."

"Adding on to what jwb said the oil consumption test is pretty straight-forward.Attatch a 1 ft.long 1/4 I.D inch clear tubing to the oil intake of your vro (forward most fitting),(fill w/2stroke oil before attatching,mark hose at1\2" intervals) start motor,observe oil dropping in tube while pinching gas/oil mixture output line (the one going to carbs) to feel for pulses.Oil level should drop 3 inches in 6-8 pulses approx 1 min. "Don't quote me on the time""
