I have an 84 Johnson 4.5hp (white) that I use for trolling on our 18' Lund. After our last trip I noticed that the area below the back pressure exhaust, was a lot of very black oily residue. I understand there should be some but the amount surprised me. Wipes off easy enough, just looks bad on a white motor.
I'm trying to figure out what is causing it. I'm using Pennzoil syn blend TCW3 oil at 50:1 with a good dose of Seafoam. Do you think my carb mixture adjustments are running rich, the Seafoam is cleaning out the motor or it's the Pennzoil?
The motor runs great, no complaints there, it's just the exhaust mess that I'm curious about.
