Exaust housing cover

I am trying to change the thermostats on my '76 Evinrude 85 hp (M/N 85693g). My guess is this will be the first new thermostats in 43 years.

I have the 2 of the 4 bolts out of the thermostat cover and started the 2 bolts from the part between the thermostat cover and the lower cowling that the hoses connect to. But I can not get the cover of the thermostat off or move the part behind the thermostat cover out. I took the bolts out of the housing that goes around the back of the motor. Not sure if this is the exhaust cover assembly or just a shroud. It looks like it should just pull directly back...but no.

Anyway, I included a pic of the thermostat situation and the 'shroud' thing. Any ideas on the next step?
Thanks!!

There are 6 bolts you have to remove on this motor the thermostat will be holding it as over the years it will be stuck gently wedge the cover off after you have removed all 6 bolts

Kinda figured... Just wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up. Any idea about the removing the exhaust cover assembly?

I'm sorry. Maybe I wasn't clear. I mean how to get off the 'shroud' that goes around the back that would open up space in the back to easier get to the thermostat. Here are a couple of pics of it.

There are 2 more 1/4" bolts below the cylinder heads to take out.----One on each side.-----Then that lower cowling comes off.

Humm. I'll check that. I don't want to take the whole lower cowling off though. Just that back panel. I think its designed to do that...isn't it?

You will see that there are 6 bolts holding that horseshoe collar on.------Taken dozens of them off.-------You can not take the whole lower cowling off without removing the powerhead.-----This should be EASY.
