My 1995 Alpha-one has one of the flappers broken in the exaust y. I am having a hard time finding the part or even seeing it on an exploded view.
Any one know how to order a new one.

The flapper shows up on the 5.7L exhaust system diagram (pc #7). I think all the V-6 and V-8 'y' pipes are the same. You didn't mention what size your engine is.

I've used these guys for a lot of parts. Never had any trouble with them, prices are about the same as anywhere else, and they usaully ship the same day if the orider is in by 10."

I have just come from their site. The water shutters I see are different from mine. By the way I have a 4.3L w/balance shaft. I found this while doing an engine replace/rebuild. I am electrical by trade and the best way to describe the flapper is that it looks like the cover to an lb or condulet cover. It is an oval and it is one piece. Thanks for your time!

Any chance that's not the original engine in the boat... and the exhaust 'y' pipe is a different breed?

I am not sure I bought it with a cracked block and replaced the bad engine with an '03 4.3 that had been swamped. I rebuilt the '03. stern drive looks factory to me unless the make an after market y pipe for the Alpa. The boat is a '95 Mariah so it is a well built craft. I may try the JB weld trick on the broke flapper but I sure would hate to backwash my pretty new engine.

"If you look at mercruiserparts.com, look up the exhaust system for the '95 engine.... it shows the flapper I think you're talking about. At least it's different than the newer, split type flapper.
I would NOT do the JB weld thing. If a peice broke off, it could really cause bigger problems downstream... like get stuck in the boot and cut it when you raise and lower the outdrive... or get wedged againt the driveshaft. I'd go without before I tried peicing it together.
Being smart about how you drive the boat will keep you from swamping the engine... don't back down hard into your own wake, etc."

"By the way, the exhaust '

"By the way, the exhaust 'y' pipe for the '95 that has the one peice flapper is the same part number as the newer pipe that has the two peice flapper.... so the one piece and two piece flapper ought to be interchangable."
