Hi all,

I just joined the forum today and was hoping someone might be able to give me a bit of advice.

There has been an old 40's outboard sitting in my families garage in Wisconsin for years. I noticed it today and figured maybe I would try and get it going today. I called my grandfather and he informed me that many years ago, they were running it, saw smoke/steam and havent run it since. It is locked up and will not even turn. I figured maybe I would try my hand at reviving it. Does anyone have any ideas where I could start? Its a 40's Evinrude Zephyr and the manual says models 4429-4431. I am unsure of the year. I would really appreciate any help. I have a background in the automotive world but all things considered, I am a novice with outboards.

A worthy challenge. Well a challenge anyway. People either love the Zephyr, or hate them. Nevertheless, obviously the first thing you need to do is figure out why it is locked up. A complete tear-down may be required if the pistons and rings are rusted.
