Evinrude water pressure gauge

Hello,
i have a 1998 25hp Evinrude RECB and would like to add a water pressure gauge. I've tried to tee off of the water discharge line but it did not seem to read, is there a plug somewhere on the block I can remove and put a hose barb fitting? Also, water size gauge do I need? I see most read up to 30psi and that seem a little overkill.

Thanks for the help, great website!

I suppose you could add a fitting into the water jacket on the block on top close to the head? Why are you wanting to add the guage? I doubt you will see much for pressure as long as your getting water out the telltale it should be good. Get a gallon of saltaway and fill a barrel of water up five inches above the cavitation plate and add the saltaway and run the engine for 1/2 hour. Do you flush the engine after each use? It is always best to flush in a barrel after each use and disconnect the fuel ine and let it run out of gas. Then your all set for the next outing.

Yup, I flush her every time and have good water flow but I have a jackplate and have already fried an impeller from running it up to high. I know, I know....well don't run it up so high.... but I do a lot of shallow water fishing/running. How do I locate that plug? Run the engine on the hard and start pulling fitting until I find water? I have a 10psi gauge, you think that's ok?

Thanks for the feedback!

No plug you would need to drill and tap threads. Get a pipethread tap to match the fitting and just keep the tap full of grease to catch the shavings. you only need about four or five threads so the fitting fits nice and tight they are tapered threads then clean it good and put some thread locker on and get it snug not to tight you crack the housing. No guarantees it will work maybe a pressure switch with a buzzer would be more practical you know when it runs out of coolant without using your eyes? It only takes about ten seconds to cook an impeller depending how fast its running.

Great idea, I'm just gonna extend the telltale so I can actually see it. Right now there's a line of sight issue with the poling platform....
