Evinrude Water Impeller Shaft

"I took the lower unit off 1971 25 HP Evinrude
and the Water impeller shaft won't come out of the motor . Does it just pull out , bolted on pinned or what ? In the upper part of the motor .
Or does it just stay in ?
Also where can I get another lower unit at the lowest price ?

"I assume you';re saying that the driveshaft is stuck up in the crankshaft splines. That happens when someone neglects to install the upper "O" Ring on ther top groove of the driveshaft and/or doesn't grease the upper splines.

The driveshaft normally, simply pulls out of the crankshaft easily.

The driveshaft also simply slides out of the lower unit once the water pump is removed. The only thing I could suggest is to force the impeller pin that drives the water pump impeller thru the top of the water pump housing which would get the lower unit out of the way, then grab some non bearing surface of the driveshaft with vice grips and pound the vice grips in a downward motion to free the driveshaft."
