Could anyone please advise me

Could anyone please advise me what the mpg of this engine should be? We have been told it's quite a thirsty engine but on our first trip we only managed about 2mpg and this wasn't with the throttle fully open! Is this fairly normal & expected? Many thanks

"You should add the size and type of boat along with, is it fiberglass ? and how many people on board, Approx weight ETC. I have a 15.5 ft Procraft Bass Boat 115HP about 50mph top speed wide open about 1 gal in 12 minutes so mathamaticly roughly 10 mpg. Hope this helps.
PS. did you have it trimed properly,when you are not up on plane consumption is very high."

"I'm a bit unsure as this is the first time we've been out in her. The boat is a Dell Quay Dory, 17ft twin hull and with the 90hp outboard probably capaple of 25-30 Knts. However, we only had the throttle 1/4 to 1/3 open for the majority of the time!"

"Michael, thanks for your post. All this is a bit new to me but yes we did have it trimmed but possibly not as it should be!? On this trip we had 3 persons on board (est 250Kg or 550lb)and yes the hull is fibreglass, really don't know the weight of the boat? 1 gal of fuel on a 1/3 throttle lasted 10-12mins!"
 
You have a leaking carburetor

You have a leaking carburetor or a leaking fuel pump.
 
We have already planned to get

We have already planned to get the engine serviced and checked as it doesn't seem quite right!!
