Evinrude top end rattle

Hello I have a 1975 Evinrude 9.9 model 10524C. It starts, idles and comes up to power fine. When at idle I hear a rattling noise . It seems to be coming from the ignition plate. While the outboard is running if I put a little pressure on the ignition plate the noise goes away or if I twist the tiller handle backwards to the slow mark and hold it with some tension the noise goes away. Would my armature bearing support plate be bad ?

Will do , I wasn’t sure if that was a candidate for the issue. Their isn’t a lot of info to be found on issues with the bearing support plate.

Yeah.... perhaps not the actual plate BUT something in that area that is allowing the plate to move sideways, wobble, tilt, that sort of thing which would result in the points changing their setting. Get back to us with what you find.
