Evinrude Shim Tool rental?

I am rebuilding the lower unit and need to shim the driveshaft. I was wondering if someone wanted/willing to rent there tool to me? I will pay for shipping and a rental fee and ship back. I am a very honest person, father of two, and a registered nurse here in san diego. So absolutely no worries of getting it back, and if damaged I will pay you for the tool.

The tool I need is Shimming tool kit 393185.

Thanks for the help and I really hope someone has one.

Also if anyone has any ideas of doing this without the tool I would love to hear. I have spoken to the local Evinrude certified repair shop and they want me to bring the whole motor in and quoting me a couple hours of labor

If you bring the driveshaft in with the pinion installed / torqued and the driveshaft bearing parts it should take about 15 minutes tops to determine the total shims required.----Call around till you find a shop wiling to do this for you.-----Tell them you know how simple this is.

So there are two dealers in San Diego that work on Evinrude motors. one quoted me 2 hours, and then the second one quoted me 5 or 6 hours. All the other shops I called told me to call these other shops because don't work on Evinrude. Pretty wild that they wont let me just bring the driveshaft in and have them measure it. Both places are asking for the whole thing and say they want to do the whole repair. I guess I will have to look into buying the tool. looks like it will be cheaper.

If you knew what the actual distance is supposed to be a machine shop could set it up for you. Trouble is, the manuals don't reveal that for you (as far as I know).
