i have 140 hp evinrude can,t get it to idle and hard to start .when it do start it runs ok .carbs cleaned new plugs good compression . anybody else having trouble with these motors.

yea!! Do you have to hold it in full throttle for a second or two then it will start?If so it is flooding!!

If the carbs are clean and serviced and it will not idle.....the normal culprit is a simple cable/linkage adjustment. The adjustment can be a real PITA and the nylon wheels in the linkage also needs to be checked for wear.

Look at the linkage and see if there is a START mark on the linkage cam and be sure it is lined up.

The fine line is to make sure the throttle opens fully when you are throttled all the way yet, using the start mark. Sometimes the cold start lever will "Not quite" get to the start mark and it needs adjustment.

Once you have achieved that balance your idle may have to be adjusted a bit but it will come together.
