Evinrude Outboard 150HP Acceleration Problem - '87

I have an '87 150HP outboard Evinrude. Symptoms are that the boat bogs down on acceleration, however, when you push in the choke while accelerating the speed increases. It appears the motor may be running lean.

We've replaced all the fuel lines, fuel filter, spark plugs. Then we took it in to a local boat repair place which did a compression check and rebuilt one of the carborators - neither of which did anything to solve the problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated. We're worried that running it as is will cause more scoring in the cylinders (they found some when we took it in) but can't afford to stick another $1000 into it since it's so old.

Thank you!

scored cylinders indicates major damage to motor parts.----------------Other then checking the high speed jets in all carburetors , there is not much you can do.---------------The motor needs major repairs !

Yes but the scoring is minimal and MAY have been cause by the problem we're seeing but it's possible it's been there much longer. We're not seeing any other problems with the motor, so it's possible if we can fix the fuel problem it could run decent for a few more years even with the scoring. (The cost of fixing the cylinders was quoted around $4000 - i only paid $2000 for the boat, so that's not going to happen.)

Would the mechnic have looked at the high speed jets when he rebuilt the carb? Any other ideas?
