been messing around with marine eng. for years and i am stumped on this. to start with the issue. i bought this motor with no lower/ gearcase on it/ although it came with 2 complete lowers one has a 29in shaft the other a 15.3/4 in shaft. the mid section housing on the motor is 17 in. splines are all the same / work good in eng and lower. now is the trouble the 29 in whould require me to put a 5in long shaft spacer in. whicth i do not want a long shaft setup. and the case on the short shaft is not that good. tried to put short 15.750 in the other gearcase it goes in fine but water pump key flat is way off/ pulled both lowers apart and the main pinion gears are a different length. so can I just switch pinion gears.
