Evinrude Model # 4404 hard time starting in water

I have 90 lbs compression on each cylinder and a strong spark on all plugs is there anything else that I am overlooking?

Do you try to always start it in foward or reverse gear ?

A 1948 engine ? It probably has a float made of cork that absorbs gasoline, sinks & floods the engine after a short period of time when the shutoff valve is opened.

They all belong as display models on " old woodies ".

You should be needing a lot of parts & abilities to seperate frozen together parts. Not a DIY engine for you.

It is always in forward didn't have gears in 1946

I had a green colored Johnson Seahorse . Way back in time. Had that odd ball foward / neutral lever that loosened the drive spring. Floats were a joke if bought used.

I got smart when a mechanic pulled the flywheel...........All coils cracked wire insulation a mass of cracks...........Basket case......Sold to a parts guy.

Hey, I've got a '39 HA-10 that runs great!! Just need patience to find parts, and some skill to figure out how to take them apart and put them back together without breaking things.
