"Hello , This is my first post here . I have a 1985 50 hp Evinrude and I'm trying to remove the lower unit . I did a search but couldn't find an answer . I can't figure out how to disconnect the shift linkage . I appreciate any help .

Thanks ,

Bill"

If like most there is a small inspection plate about mid section of the mid section with 2 screws. remove the plate and loosen or remove the lower of 2 screws on the shift shaft. then remove the 6 bolts that point up and the one that points down. gently shake or very gently pry the lower unit. it should weigh about 30 pounds so I recomend placing a pallet or used tire with no rim incase it pops loose it wont bang on the ground. I have the 40 horse version of that motor so it should be close to the same. if you have a trim tab on that motor the last bolt will be under it. Im not an expert like some of the great people who post here but that should point you in the right direction

Ken---that is nonsense---- Bil
