Hi,

Just picked up an Evinrude 7.5HP outboard. Looking for some help on identification of the motor based off the serial number so that I can mix the gas right etc.

Serial number is 7518-06407

Thanks!

Go to this main website and you shoul be able to look up that number. I have model number 7522 and mine is a 1957 so yours is earlier than that. I think the mixture on that might be 24:1? might wait for some more replies before you hold me to that though.

At the time of manufacture the recommended was 16:1. That was using 30 or 40 weight straight non-detergent oil in the 4 gallon tank that commonly was used for the smaller HP motors. If you had the 6 gallon tank then you ran at 24:1. This was due to the way oil was sold back then. It came in 1 quart metal or paper with a metal top/bottom can that you punctured either with a spout or just a hole. Hard to tell when you used a half or quarter or third so just dump in the whole can. Now with advances in oil some will tell you you can run much less oil and still be safe. For myself, I like my old motors and can except the small cost of running them at the 16:1 or 24:1. All that aside, use TCW3 at which ever rate you choose. Less oil equals less smoke but possibly less motor life. If you use the motor in an area that is environmentally friendly get some TCW3 synthetic oil which produces less smoke at any ratio and allegedly is easier for nature to recycle.
