Evinrude E90TLCCA, 90 HP V4. How do you disconnect shift shaft??

Trying to replace the impeller on an Evinrude 90HP V4 (E90TLCCA) outboard. I can't figure out where/how to disconnect the shift shaft so I can drop the lower unit. I can see where the shift cable comes up thru the cowl under the lower carb but just don't see how it is disconnected. Frustrating night trying to get this done. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Fairly simple I think.----Remove the shift cable at the motor.-----Find the bellcrank ( L shaped ) shaft that goes underneath the bottom carburetor.---Find the hitch pin on that shaft.----Remove the hitch pin.----Push that shaft to the port side of the motor and rotate slightly.----Shift rod should now be disconnected.

I saw the hitch pin on the starboard side of the motor but just could not figure out how that would disconnect to shaft. Hope getting the shaft lined up and reconnected is not to bad. Thanks racerone for the help!
