"I am very new to this, sorry for the lack of knowledge, Have purchased an evinrude 1964 9 1/2 model 9422. I purchased an original manual, I would like to change the oil In I beleive the gear case, In the manual it shows to use OMC type "C" tube, does the oil still come in a tube? I would assume it would be hard to fill through the oil lever hole without a tube? Can I use regular 2 stoke outboard oil 50:1? Any help in this basic maintanance is geatly appriciated.
Please email me with any help [email protected].
Thanks, Joe"

"Hey Joe...90W gear oil is fine..Get the plastic bottles with the long necks on them. Remove both the upper and lower plug and let drain into a container of some sort...Fill from the bottom plug hole until it comes out of the top hole...keep the bottle in the bottom hole as you reinstall the top plug..Then the top plug....If the oil you remove is creamy looking, then water is getting the lower unit...run the motor on the refill you just did, and check the oil for water..do this by loosening the bottom plug until it starts to leak and see what you have..."

"If you want it to last, use exactly what the original manual says. Type "C" gear oil for the lower unit and the best quality 2 cycle outboard oil you can afford. The manual recommends 50:1 mix, I use 40:1 and it runs fine."
