"i just bought a 1986 9.9 evinrude. as it sat for 2 years i serviced it. changed out fuel tank and fuel, new sparking plugs new carb kit. changed also head gasket.it started ok but i cant have it on idle.i have to give it at least quarter of the throttle to stay running.can it be that the motor doesnt have any fuel filter and maybe there is something in the pump itself. i set the idling screw as it was written on the recomandatios on the kit it self all the way in and 1 1/2 back. i tried also to play with it a little but it didnt help.can someone please help me"

"The idle is adjusted with the knob 12. In - increase idle, out- decrease idle. Most likely the ball h32 has to be adjusted as well on the throtle cable to get it all to work.

thanks for your info morten bu

thanks for your info morten but my carburator is different than that. all i have is a long screw in the carb it self on top of it and it called idling adjuster. i don have the picture of it. but i thing its the same principle if you screw in the idling will go up and if you screw it out the idling will go down.but with no throttle the carb air inlet is fully closed do i have to set it just a little open so it will work better. what do you thing. thanks for everything.for now

"You are probably talking abou

"You are probably talking about #22 which is only a idle mix adjust screw, and not an idle speed. Idle mix is to get the engine running stable at low idle, but idle speed has to be adjusted to fit boat/propeller/load etc.

yes you are right . thats the one am talking about.i really cannot set it. i don know whats wrong with it. i really tried everything at least thats what i think.do you think that there is some kind of filter in the pump itself cause i don have any in line filter.do you recommend tthat i put one??thanks

"If You are using tiller handl

"If You are using tiller handle as shown in first pic, do as follow.
Adjust with tiller throttle until engine runs at lowest possible rpm in neutral. Then start with the mix needle 2,5 turn out and adjust 1/8-1/4 turn in until engine reaches highest rpm without moving the throttle. Be careful, and let engine get time to stable itself between turning the mix screw. When You have found the 'spot' on mix screw where engine has the highest rpm, back off (out) the screw 1/4 turn.
Adjust the knob at the end of tiller all the way out, adjust the ball on the threaded part of the cable so engine hardly runs at idle.
Now You should be able to set engine idle with the knob at end of tiller at desired rpm."
