I have searched this forum but must be using the wrong words as I'm sure this one has come up multiple times.
I have a 1983 Yachtwin 9.9 outboard that runs great. I found though that I need to pull the starter cord several times with short, quick pulls and eventually the starter pulley jumps up and engages with the flywheel.
What causes it to move up and engage ? What needs to be adjusted or replaced to get the starter working correctly again ? I have circled the pulley in red that is not jumping up. Does this have something to do with the Pinion Spring ?
