Have a 1998 Evinrude 9.9 electric start. Like most in this era it has a starter lock out that as long as you are in gear you can not use pull rope to start. There is a small cam system under recoil that when in gear will not allow recoil to engage. I have searched all over but no one has info on exactly how this cam allows plunger to engage and disengage when shifting. Personally think this is a ridiculous system and I will most likely just gut plunger, spring and linkage and treat just like a normal system.
I'm just curious on how the cam hooked to add gift rod pulls plunger back against the strong spring that engages plunger. Will be interested in hearing comments.
