Hello all this my first post h

Hello all this my first post here and havent done this before.well to start off I have a 90 model evinrude 70hp on a sd-80 skeeter bass boat. This is a new purchase and Ive never ran the boat. The previous owner let the boat sit for a year or so but said It ran fine last time he took it out.He had the motor rebuilt less than 10 hours back and said I should have no problem.Since I am new to boating and no very little I would appreciate any suggestion on what I should do before first start up and also any potential problems I should watch for.
thanks

there are a few things i would

there are a few things i would do..change lower unit oil....check for water in lower unit(color of oil and drain into a pan where you can see any water)..i would have checked compression before i bought it and i would definitely do that now...get rid of all old gas..use new gas and run motor with rabbit ears while on trailer at home...inspect all gas lines for leaks..visually inspect the timing advance and make sure its free and operates properly...lub as necc...one drop of oil on starter shaft...inspect plugs...i would probably change them...make sure the gas line snaps into place when you attach to motor...if you can pull it off without pressing down on little lever then it is not seated..the failure on this will mislead you...you can fill the carbs but the boat will set down just like you ran out of gas...it may happen 100 yards from the landing or will happen in the boondocks later..it is going to happen tho..i am overlooking a few things but its early in the morning..good luck

"Erik..... Sitting for a year,

"Erik..... Sitting for a year, I would strongly suspect that the carburetors might be fouled.

If the engine has proper compression and spark (test spark with s/plugs removed) but a lack of power exists OR the engine has a tendency to die out when throttle is applied, remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetors with complete carburetor kits. A slightly fouled carburetor results in having the related cylinder run lean which will damage a piston etc.

Compression = approx 100+ psi and even on all cyls.

Spark = should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP!"

hey guys thanks for the quick

hey guys thanks for the quick response. I will change everything out today and check spark and compression.I think the vro has already been diconected. I couldnt find a oil res and there is a extra inlet under the gas inlet on the motor that has been plugged.thanks agin for the responses.
Erik
